Phone ports: Android step by step
A phone port is not an emulator and not a random APK: it is the original game recompiled for ARM64 and packaged as a normal Android app. This is what changes, what you need and how to install it without handing your phone to a stranger.
- It is not an emulator
- The game runs natively on the phone's CPU. There is no console being simulated, so performance and battery life are usually better than with an emulator.
- You still need your copy
- The app does not include the game's data. You extract it from your own legal copy and place it where the project's README says.
- Official APK only
- Download from the project's GitHub or website. Repackaged APKs from aggregators are the most common way to get malware.
- ARM64 and a modern GPU
- Most current ports are ARM64 and ask for Vulkan 1.0 or OpenGL ES 3.2. A 2019 phone on Android 10 can work; a 2016 phone probably will not.
- Controls
- Some ports ship touch controls; others expect a Bluetooth gamepad. Check the entry before installing.
- Storage and permissions
- Reserve several GB and review the permissions. A port never needs your contacts, SMS or location.
Step by step
- Open the entry and confirm that Android appears under platforms.
- Follow the official link and download the release built for arm64-v8a.
- Install the APK from your file manager. Android will ask to allow 'unknown apps' for that manager; that is expected.
- Copy the game data into the folder named in the README, then open the app.
- If it fails, check the Android version, Vulkan support and free space before trying another build.
Red flag: a page that asks for payment, uses link shorteners or installs a second 'installer'. Go back to the catalog entry and use its official link.
